8 Bad Pieces of Health Advice You Should Definitely Ignore
Bad Pieces of Health Advice
Feed a cold, starve a fever
This popular adage has been going around for centuries. But does it hold any truth to it? Is it really efficient to eat when we have a cold, but not eat when we have a fever?
Most health experts agree to disagree, at least when it comes to the fever part. According to Elroy Vojdani, MD, a functional medicine practitioner and the founder of Regenera Medical in Los Angeles, when your immune system is attacked by a virus or infection, it needs huge amounts of energy to fight it off. Solid food and fluids can give you that energy.
When it comes to the fever part, your body uses even more energy to fight back. “You, in fact, need more calories to help keep up with the energy depletion of a fever,” says Dr. Vojdani. He recommends eating healthy calories when you can handle it, lighter but hydrating foods like bone broth and of course, plenty of water and rest.
