When it comes to coronavirus, all eyes have been on the respiratory tract and lungs, as the virus was found to spread through respiratory droplets released by an infected person through coughing, sneezing or simply talking and enter one’s body through the nose and mouth.
Although rare, it is possible for the coronavirus to land in your eyes as well and become infected. “If there is coronavirus in your tears, without a doubt, there’s the potential of it entering your mouth and your respiratory tract through a drainage system,” explains Matthew Gorski, MD, an ophthalmology specialist at Northwell Health’s Center for Adult Ophthalmology in Great Neck, New York.
