When your skin feels itchy, there’s usually an apparent reason such as a rash or an allergic reaction. However, sometimes itchiness can be a sign of something else.
Primary biliary cholangitis, a chronic disease that severely damages the bile ducts in your liver, doesn’t usually have obvious symptoms, but one early sign is super itchy skin. When your bile duct is blocked, the bile stagnates and goes back into the bloodstream, accumulating under the skin and causing itching.
Most people don’t take itchiness seriously, but it can also indicate cirrhosis of the liver. Therefore, if you experience skin itchiness for a longer period of time, you might need to make an appointment with your doctor.
