Sedentary Women Are at High Risk for Pulmonary Embolism! 4 Tips to Prevent It!

Pulmonary embolism – how to prevent it!

A team of researchers, led by Christopher Kabrhel, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, studied details of the daily lives of 69,950 nurses for 18 years.

The researchers found that the risk of pulmonary embolism is more than twice as high in women who, outside working hours, spend more than 41 hours a week in a sitting position, compared to those who sit for less than 10 hours.

The results were the same regardless of age and weight and it does not change whether the person smokes or not.

The study suggests that physical inactivity may be one of the hidden mechanisms of arterial and venous disease.

4 tips to prevent pulmonary embolism:

  • exercise more
  • Avoid too much caffeine and try to drink lots of fluids like water or natural juice
  • Avoid smoking as much as you can
  • Don’t wear tight clothing
