5 Most Common Causes of Itchy Eyes and Recommended Treatment

Blepharitis

Blepharitis is an inflammation and redness of the eyelids which also makes your eyes itchy. It is generally caused by a buildup of debris at the base of your eyelashes and on the eyelids. Blepharitis doesn’t usually affect your vision, but it can become chronic and cause conjunctivitis and other complications.

Treatment: Over-the-counter eyelid wipes or a tear-free soap are useful in eliminating the debris. Using warm compresses or heated steam eye masks is also an efficient method to reduce the irritation and possible swelling. In more severe cases, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications such as eye drops, creams and ointments might be required.
