2020 turned out nothing like we hoped, huh?
As one of the most difficult years in recent history comes to an end, our country is still battling a deadly respiratory virus – one we weren’t prepared for at all. As I’m writing this article, more than 15 million Americans have been tested positive for the virus, causing over 288,000 fatalities. Things have never been so rough.
Unlike in the past months, though, now we have hope.
For the past few weeks, multiple pharmaceutical giants have developed promising vaccines which may, quite literally, save the world.
But when will the Food and Drug Administration approve them? Who will be vaccinated first? Today, we’ll answer all of those questions and more.
Giant companies Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna have already submitted their application for EUA (Emergency Use Authorization) to their FDA.
The companies have been working together to develop a vaccine which has now successfully gone through the phase 3 clinical trials (more on that here).
During a scheduled online meeting, the FDA’s vaccine advisory committee will have to decide whether to grant permission for the two companies to send and use the vaccine in our country or not.
You can read all about the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trials in my post right here.
