Previous studies regarding obesity and COVID also suggested that COVID patients with obesity are at a higher risk of needing hospitalization, mechanical ventilation and even lose their lives. For example, as per research of 75 studies, published in Obesity Reviews, researchers found that a body mass index over 30 has been linked to a 48% higher risk of death, a 113% higher risk of hospitalization and 74% higher risk of intensive care unit with COVID-19.
