Refreshing Watermelon Smoothie Recipe
Watermelon is around 92 percent water, so simply tossing watermelon into the blender might result in a watery and tasteless watermelon juice. But if you add the following ingredients, you will take the recipe to the next level and end up with the perfect thirst quencher on a hot summer day.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups watermelon. Fresh watermelon is simply delicious, but I recommend pre-freezed watermelon, cut into cubes, to prevent the watery issue. Also, look for a seedless watermelon to save time.
1 cup of frozen strawberries. Strawberries sweeten the smoothie without overpowering the watermelon taste. Not to mention they are rich in vitamin C, potassium, folic acid, and fiber.
1/2 medium ripe banana. The ripper the better. Frozen bananas are better than room temperature bananas because it makes the smoothie richer and creamier.
1/2 – 3/4 cup unsweetened plain almond milk. Almond milk will also give your smoothie a creamy texture and provides a whole host of nutrients and minerals such as vitamin E, calcium, protein and magnesium.
1 medium lime. 1 lemon yields around 30 ml of juice so if you think your smoothie is too sweet, lime juice will help you offset it to your taste.
1 Tbsp chia or hemp seeds. Not only will chia seeds add texture and nutrition to your smoothie, but they will also make it look appealing and interesting. Whole chia seeds need to be soaked for about 10 minutes before blending.
Directions:
- Add the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
Captain’s tip: Smoothies are best served in chilled glasses, so this watermelon smoothie makes no exception. The refreshing effect will be guaranteed!Â
