If you’re a fan of soft cheeses such as Camembert, blue cheese or Brie, you probably know these are unpasteurized and can pack a serious amount of harmful bacteria.

Younger individuals might not be as affected by the bacteria in soft cheeses, but for elderly individuals with a weaker immune system or stomach issue, the ingestion of such bacteria can have disastrous consequences.

Captain’s tip: To enjoy the benefits of cheese, among which Vitamin D that most seniors are deficient in, replace soft cheeses with varieties like cheddar, Monterey Jack, and Swiss cheese.
