If you are drinking coffee on a daily basis, you can surely recognize the dreadful headaches caused by your body not receiving its daily caffeine intake. That’s because when you stop drinking coffee, you’re no longer supplying your body with the adrenaline and dopamine that come in a cup of coffee. Instead of feeling stimulated and energized, your body is invaded by adenosine, a hormone associated with rest and fatigue. This hormone modifies your brain chemistry, causing those insufferable headaches.
To minimize caffeine withdrawal symptoms among which the frequent headaches, Wesley Delbridge, RD, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests reducing your caffeine intake gradually, from one full cup to only a half, a cup of tea instead of a second cup of coffee, normal coffee combined with decaf etc.

Apart from the headaches that you might feel after you stop drinking coffee, you might also experience other physical symptoms of caffeine withdrawal such as depression, anxiety, flu-like symptoms, insomnia, mood swings, dizziness and sluggishness. I know it sounds utterly unpleasant, but these symptoms won’t last forever.
According to health specialists, most of the physical side effects will go away in a couple of days while the other ones will pass in a week or so.
