9 Things That Happen to Your Body When You Stop Drinking Coffee

Drinking coffee (the right amount and type) does have numerous health benefits such as reducing inflammation and protecting against Alzheimer’s disease and heart disease. There’s nothing like a steaming cup of coffee to perk you up and boost your mood in the morning. But, like everything else in this world, coffee can also cause some unwanted side effects, especially when you are drinking much more than you should.

I am not saying you should quit drinking coffee (I, for one, can’t imagine life without it). But if you want to at least reduce your caffeine intake, here are 9 things that could happen to your body. Speaking of vices, find out more about these 7 Things That Happen to Your Body When You Quit Smoking.

You could gain weight

For some people, coffee is a meal replacement that keeps their hunger at bay for a few hours. Have you ever noticed how hungry you can get if you skip on drinking your cup of Joe one morning? I have, and let me tell you it is not something I want to experience too often. It makes me want to eat every fatty, sugary food I can get my hands on at that very moment.

According to nutritionists, this incessant craving and hunger is caused by caffeine withdrawal. To compensate, your body wants a quick sugar fix that would not only spike your blood sugar but would also send your calorie intake through the roof. The more extra calories, the higher chances of gaining unwanted pounds.
