One female patient that contracted Covid-19 noticed how her nails loosened from the nail base and fell out, three months after her infection with the virus. The phenomenon is known as onychomadesis, and it happens in similar situations as Beau’s lines.
Onychomadesis can also happen when the nails are very damaged, or they suffer a loss of blood supply, which might be caused by bruising. The nailbed turns black, and very soon after the nail falls off.
The patient didn’t receive any treatment for these changes as she noticed how new and healthy nails were growing underneath those detached, which means the issue was already beginning to resolve itself.
So, if this is happening to you, rest assured that new nails will grow back!
