Brown sugar is better than white sugar

You might not want to hear this, but sugar is sugar, no matter the color, and too much sugar is too much regardless of the source. It’s true that brown sugar has fewer calories than white sugar but it also has “an identical glycemic index to white sugar, meaning that they have the exact same potential to do harm to your metabolism,” according to Dr. Vojdani.

The best thing you can do is limit your overall sugar intake and opt for low GI sweeteners such as coconut sugar or agave syrup. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends no more than 12 teaspoons of added sugar per day, which means 100 calories or less per day for women, and no more than 150 calories from sugar for men.
