8 Bad Pieces of Health Advice You Should Definitely Ignore

If your skin is darker, you don’t need sunscreen

Just because you tan easily or have naturally darker skin, doesn’t mean you are not at risk for sun damage or skin cancer. Having darker skin and higher amounts of melanin does indeed give you some natural protection against UV rays but unprotected sun exposure can still damage your skin and even cause skin cancer, according to the Canadian Cancer Society.

More than that, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2016, skin cancer among people with darker skin such as African Americans is often associated “with greater morbidity and mortality”.
