10 Foods That Become Toxic When Reheated in a Microwave

Seafood

Seafood lovers know that fresh seafood is what makes a recipe delicious. But just how safe is it to put seafood in the microwave for a second round of eating? It all lies in the method of storing the respective seafood.

The FDA explains that it’s ok to reheat seafood that was caught and put in the freezer immediately after. When it comes to seafood that has been left at room temperature for too long, the FDA warns it could be contaminated with bacteria that can lead to food poisoning. Bacteria can easily multiply at temperatures between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit and might not be destroyed in the heating process.

Captain’s tip: If seafood has been sitting around for more than two hours in cool weather or one hour in warm weather, don’t hesitate in throwing it away.
