7 Surprising Foods That Might Give You Food Poisoning

Cheese

Cheese lovers, we’ve got some bad news for you. Cheese is another type of food considered a potential food poisoning risk. The most common bacteria found in cheese is called Staphylococcus aureus, a heat resistant bacterium with a high tolerance for salt.

In many unfortunate situations, the bacteria are transferred from a person carrying the staph on their skin and coming in contact with the cheese. Pregnant women are usually advised to stay away from all types of soft cheese such as feta and ricotta to avoid pregnancy complications.

Captain’s tip: Firstly, make sure you store the cheese at or under 5°C. Secondly, wash and sanitize your hand and all the utensils you touch the cheese with.
