Top 10 Mosquito-Infested Cities in the U.S. (Are You in One of Them?)

The Big Apple has over 40 species of mosquitos, but only some of them can transmit the West Nile virus. They are small flying insects that feed on human and animal blood, but also on plant juices. Female mosquito bite to get blood, in order to feed their growing eggs.

In New York state, there are approximately 70 species of mosquitos, and although they are mostly considered nuisance pest, they occasionally transmit viruses. If you want to reduce the mosquito population around your home, reduce or eliminate all standing water spots, such as tin cans, plastic containers, ceramic pots or other water-holding containers.
