Watermelon might be a perfectly refreshing summer fruit, but the fact that it is delicious doesn’t make it suitable for dieters. Brooke Alpert, RD, author of The Diet Detox says that watermelon should be consumed with mindfulness as it can pack up to 17 grams of sugar per wedge (approx. one-sixth of the melon) while one single cup of watermelon packs nine grams of sugar.
Nutritionists all agree that watermelon is packed with vitamins and nutrients and can be a real summer blessing, so there’s no reason you should give it up completely. Just eat it in moderation to reap all its benefits.
