If you think your weight is the best indicator of your health condition, doctors agree to disagree. According to specialists, the scale might tell you that you need to lose some pounds until you reach your ideal weight, but your clothes fit you better than ever. So, what’s really going on?
According to doctors, fat and muscle have different density; muscle is more compact and firmer than fat and occupies less space in your body. Your scale might stay the same but the speed at which you burn calories is definitely different if you have muscle instead of fat, including when resting. “So, don’t be a slave to the scale. It’s what that pound consists of that matters,” says Anthony Musemici, certified personal trainer, master spin instructor and co-owner of CrossFit Bridge and Tunnel in New York City.
