Unless your hair is unusually greasy and prone to oil buildup, it’s not recommended to wash your hair more than two times a week, three if you really have to. “Washing it more often than necessary won’t make it cleaner, nor will it help it grow faster,” says Ken L. Williams Jr., DO.

In fact, the effect is quite the opposite. Too much shampooing can lead to itchiness, drying and flakiness of the scalp. In turn, this can increase your risk of developing scalp disorders such as seborrheic dermatitis or folliculitis. Surely, it is not something you want!
