Clumsiness

Sure, you may be clumsy by nature, but extreme clumsiness can also be a sign of something more serious than being a total klutz. According to Anthony Kouri, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Toledo Medical Center, clumsiness can indicate amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease.

“ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that destroys motor neuron cells and leads to worsening disability and death,” Kouri explains. Some of its early signs include stumbling or bumping into things, hand weakness, difficulty gripping things and muscle cramps.
