Johnson opened up about his struggles with depression in his younger years as well. After tearing ligaments in his shoulder during football practice, Johnson had to stay on the bench for an entire season. The injury made young Rock get into a deep depression that lasted for months.
What really made the difference for him is what his father had told him, that he had to keep on fighting and he can’t give up. “You can’t dwell on that. If you let yourself get stuck there, you’re going to stay stuck there.” Johnson wanted to tell everyone who’s dealing with depression that they’re not alone and it’s perfectly normal to ask for help.
