Before she became J.K. Rowling, Joanne Rowling was an unemployed single mother that applied for welfare benefits so she can take care of her 1-year-old daughter. In her own manner of speaking, she described how she was as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain, but not homeless.
During those times, her depression took a dark turn, where she considered herself a big failure. She even contemplated suicide. What made the difference for her? Writing the series “Harry Potter” and seeking professional help.
