Wellness Captain 3-Step Beauty Routine For All Skin Types

Just because you’re staying in more than usual, it doesn’t mean you can’t create a new beauty routine too. In fact, you can use the few extra minutes you have at hand daily to develop healthier habits. Contrary to popular beliefs, adopting a skin care routine can be both simple and affordable; all it takes it consistency on your side.

And because many times less is more, today I’ll show you a 5-step routine that matches all skin types.

What are the main skin types?

Knowing your skin type is essential to maintaining smooth, elastic skin over the years; it’s also beneficial to improve the beauty routine I’m about to explain next.

If you’re still unsure about your skin type, here are a few hints:

  • Normal skin: balanced, neither too oily nor too dry, not sensitive to temperature changes/products either;
  • Oily skin: the skin becomes shiny and greasy quickly and it’s prone to acne;
  • Dry skin: the skin feels tight, sometimes even itchy particularly after washing or applying certain products;
  • Combination skin: the T-zone (nose and forehead) is greasy, oily while the cheecks are dry;
  • Sensitive skin: the skin is irritated easily by products, temperature changes or certain fabrics.

How this beauty routine works

Regardless of your skin type, there are three steps every kind of skin needs to stay healthy: cleansing, toning and moisturizing. As for the rest of the steps listed below, you may experiment depending on the needs of your skin.

Are you ready to start taking care of yourself the way you deserve? Let’s begin!

  1. Cleansing
    Every day (and night!) your skin pores accumulate dirt, microbes and other impurities that prevent it to function correctly – not to mention make-up. I recommend using a sulfate-free cleanser because it removes excess oil and grime without drying out your skin. This is an important quality if you use it daily (which you should).
  2. Toning
    Once your skin is clear, you can apply a toner that maintains elasticity and balances the pH. A good-quality toner should be alcohol-free, as alcohol attacks skin pores and may leave the skin dangerously dry. If the product also contains extra natural ingredients like rosewater, aloe vera or hyaluronic acid, it’s even better!
  3. Moisturizing
    Finally, your skin will thank you for using a facial moisturizer every morning. This product keeps it hydrated throughout the day and strengthens the natural protective barrier of your skin pores. I recommend a moisturizer with a SPF of (at least) 30 to make sure it also keeps you safe from the powerful summer sunlight.

Captain’s Tip: You can upgrade this routine by exfoliating the skin once a week and/or by applying a mask that matches your skin type occasionally.
