Are you more likely to have severe COVID-19 complications as a diabetic?
Unfortunately, as I was explaining in the previous question, if you have diabetes there is indeed a higher risk for developing complications.
The rule doesn’t apply to the SARS-CoV-2 virus alone, but for any virus, and it’s mainly due to how diabetes impacts the immune system. Therefore, you should always try to avoid getting the flu or other coronavirus as well.
Since your body as a diabetic takes up more energy to fight off the virus, you may also experience more severe symptoms than healthy individuals.
