This Is Who Will Receive The First COVID Booster Shots
A third dose might feel like too much, but the benefits of a booster shot are far greater than the inconveniences. As reported by Insider, during a clinical trial conducted by Moderna, three booster candidates have been compared: a third dose of the original shot, a booster targeting B.1.351 variant found in South Africa, and a 50-50 mix of the two.
The results suggested that the group getting the variant-specific booster had a 62 percent stronger immune response than the participants who got a third dose of the original vaccine. More than that, Moderna also announced their intention to “get a flu vaccine in the clinic this year and then combine our flu vaccine to our COVID vaccine, so you only have to get one boost at your local CVS store”. This vaccine would offer protection against the seasonal flu but also against COVID variants.
