10 Foods That Become Toxic When Reheated in a Microwave
Chicken
This may come as a surprise, especially with chicken being such a common food, but reheating leftover chicken might do more harm than good to your health. Food experts say that improperly reheated chicken can case food poisoning.
As explained by Lydia Buchtmann, spokesperson for the Food Safety Information Council, in order for the reheated chicken to be safe for eating, every part of it has to be heated at a temperature of at least 175 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s the minimum temperature that can destroy harmful bacteria. A cooking thermometer might help you in this endeavor.
Captain’s tip: If you do want to reheat it, the chicken needs to be stored at a temperature below 42 degrees Fahrenheit at all times and for no longer than three days. Otherwise, just do yourself a favor and throw it away!
