An aspirin a day is good for heart health

Aspirin is known to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke due to its blood-thinning “quality”. This prompted many healthy people to take daily doses of aspirin, without a doctor’s recommendation.  While aspiring may hold some benefits for some individuals, such as those who have previously suffered heart attacks, increasing research shows that the daily aspirin therapy can have serious health risks.

In fact, a recent study which involved around 20,000 people from the United States and Australia published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2018, concluded that aspirin’s role  “in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease is unclear, especially in older persons”. More than that, even in lower doses, aspirin can increase bleeding risks.

Bottom line: don’t go around popping aspirins on a daily basis without consulting your doctor first.
