Vocal cord neuropathy

Perhaps one of the least known symptoms of COVID-19 is vocal neuropathy, a condition that happens when your vocal cord nerves are working irregularly. The most common symptoms of this secondary condition are shortness of breath, pain when swallowing and hoarseness.

With vocal cord neuropathy, your vagus nerve becomes irritated, which can be an issue since it’s responsible for regulating your heart rate and reflexes such as coughing and sneezing. While this condition can be caused by many respiratory illnesses, it’s always best to watch out for other COVID-19 symptoms as well and get tested if necessary.
