This Is Who Will Receive The First COVID Booster Shots
Without the boosters, breakthrough infections might occur
During their clinical trials, Moderna analyzed blood samples of volunteers participating in the study, to determine the level of protection against COVID-19 six to eight months after receiving both doses of the vaccine.
Clinical data suggested that 37 of the 40 participants showed COVID antibodies, but only half of them had antibodies against the variants from South African and Brasil, which have also appeared in the United States. This means that the protection provided by the initial vaccine might fail when facing these mutations, which makes boosters even more necessary.
