Warning: THIS Happens If You Miss Your Second COVID-19 Shot
What if I get my second shot later?
Some people may forget to take their second vaccine shot while others may be indecisive. Is taking the second shot later still an option?
Dr. Parikh recommends everyone who missed their scheduled second shot to take it as soon as possible. ‘You’ll get the same benefit from both doses,’ he says, ‘but you should get it ASAP so you don’t get sick between doses.’
Ideally, you should wait about 3 weeks between the two doses for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Specialists established this timing after multiple clinical trials which proved that our bodies process the vaccine best this way.
Experts still can’t tell how waiting longer between the two doses would impact the vaccine efficacy. However, Leonard Krilov, MD at the NYU Langone Hospital, says that even if you take your second shot 90 days after the first one, you’ll probably still be immunized.
Remember that you can always reschedule your vaccine appointment if you can’t make it on time!
