Low-fat foods

To combat the effects of aging, many seniors opt for low-fat foods, including foods with a natural level of fat. But what they really should steer clear of is saturated fats, not the healthy fats found in fish, nuts, and olive oil. These can come with a lot of health benefits, including improving cholesterol levels and boosting heart and brain health.

Captain’s tip: Seniors do not have to cut fat out of their diet for good. Just pay attention to the type of fat they choose, like full-fat varieties in foods like milk, yogurt, salmon.

Healthy fats can decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke, protect the joints and improve mental cognition.
