10 "Healthy" Foods Seniors Should Avoid Eating Altogether 1

Raw eggs

Raw eggs can help you have more energy, build muscle, protect your eyes and make your hair and skin healthier, but for seniors, the adverse effects of raw egg consumption far outrun the benefits. That’s because raw eggs can contain salmonella, which, in turn, can cause food poisoning whose symptoms in elderly people are likely to be much worse than for someone younger.

Captain’s tip: To get all the benefits of eggs, seniors should avoid raw egg and foods that contain raw eggs like unpasteurized eggnog, homemade Caesar dressing, French toast. Opt for cooked or fully baked eggs, such as scrambled or hard-boiled eggs.
