11 Surprising Things That Could Be Giving You Headaches 1

Tight hairstyles

This is for all the ladies wearing those chic, pulled-back hairstyles day in day out. Ladies, you’re only hurting yourself needlessly. That’s because “hairstyles like ponytails, braids, high buns, and various other updos can sometimes elicit tension on the scalp from the tug and tight pull on the hair,” says Nesochi Okeke-Igbokwe, MD, a physician and health and wellness expert.

Keeping your hair up all the time can irritate certain scalps nerves like the occipital nerves (at the back of your head) and trigeminal nerves (around your face) and trigger the so-called ponytail headaches.

If you want the headache to stop, first thing’s first: take your hair down. Secondly, massage your scalp gently. The pain should subside but if it doesn’t you can also try over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen.
