Richard Nixon had always been an ambitious man of contrasts. This could also be seen in his food choices when he became the 37th president of the United States and arrived at the White House in 1968. Despite his seriousness and fierceness when it came to politics, his favorite foods were as humble as could be. He greatly enjoyed the traditional, all-American meatloaf.

In fact, according to “The White House Family Cookbook,” his love for meatloaves led to “Mrs. Nixon’s meat loaf recipe to be printed on White House stationery to be sent in response to the thousands of requests.” A rather unusual preference involved cottage cheese and ketchup, which he would often eat for breakfast.
