10 “Healthy” Foods Seniors Should Avoid Eating Altogether
Unpasteurized milk
Unpasteurized milk is said to be packed with amino acids, antimicrobials, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, compared to pasteurized milk. Regardless of its high levels of vitamins and healthy fats, it’s not something recommended to seniors.
That’s because raw milk can carry dangerous germs and bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria and many more other types that have been associated with food poisoning. The risk of becoming ill from unpasteurized milk is greater for older adults as their immune system is usually weaker.
Captain’s tip: Milk does have its benefits, but to stay on the safe side, seniors should opt for pasteurized whole-milk varieties.
